In early 2008, Ross Blankenship hosted his first baseball tournament in Lake Charles, Louisiana, focusing on preparation, logistics, and communication. This event sets the foundation for what would eventually become 2D Sports.
Over the next three years, Ross hosted one tournament each season (Southwest Shootout) in Lake Charles, improving logistics and generating excitement among players, coaches, and parents.
Due to high demand, the Southwest Shootout grew from one tournament to two, marking the first expansion of Ross’s tournament operations.
By the end of 2013, the tournament series had grown to five tournaments across Louisiana, forcing Ross to find help to operate the tournaments with the same consistency and professionalism.
By the end of 2013, Ross saw the potential to expand the tournament series across Louisiana and into bordering states. To do this, he needed great people to build and execute a plan to scale. That summer, he brought in Ramsey Blankenship and Brandon Magierowski to help execute high-level events and build the plan for expansion.
Following the success of the 2014 summer tournament series, the team officially formed the Diamond Dynasty (2D Sports) business to expand their tournaments across the Southeast. Mike Trahan, a coach and scout with vast recruiting experience, joined Ross, Ramsey, and Brandon to help drive this expansion.
As the high school tournaments expanded across the Southeast, the team turned their attention towards youth baseball tournaments with the goal of elevating the standard of youth baseball in the Southeast. Baton Rouge native Jesse Cassard, with 15 years of head coaching and managerial experience, joined 2D Sports to spearhead the development of a youth baseball model.
The next three years included growing high school tournaments to 50 events per year while creating a youth tournament model that elevated the standard for coaches, players, and parents alike. The team faced challenges from competitors but pushed past barriers to create the best tournament offering in the Southeast and expand to over 100 youth tournaments per year.
As the tournament offerings grow and the demand increases, the executive team invests heavily into their people. Hiring the best and brightest to help execute tournaments, scale to new areas, maintain the culture and values, and grow the brand across the country.
Due to the growth of the volleyball scene in the South, 2D Sports launches volleyball tournaments, hosting five events and over 150 teams in the inaugural season.
A record year of events for 2D Sports. Hosting over 300 total tournaments across seven states in 2024, serving over 6,500 teams and 100,000 players. What was an unthinkable feat back in 2008 becomes a reality for Ross and the team just 10 years after launching a single tournament in Louisiana.
The 2025 season marks the official 10-year anniversary of 2D Sports, which comes with a new logo, new website, new events, and the same great people behind the scenes working to provide you with the best executed events in the country.
